Obituary: Louis "Gene" DiGiambattisti, 86, of Keyport

Louis "Gene" DiGiambattisti, 86, of Keyport, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, October 8, 2012.

He was born in Cliffwood and has lived in Keyport since 1948. Gene retired in 1986 as an operator for N L Industries after 30 years of service. He proudly served our country during WWII in the United States Army, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was the recipient of the Silver Star and Bronze Star medals. Gene was a member of the American Legion Post# 23 and the VFW Post# 4247, Keyport. Gene enjoyed shooting pool, playing cards, painting and watching the Mets. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will certainly be missed by everyone.

He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Palma (Topi) DiGiambattisti; two brothers, Vitale and Angelo; and two sisters, Concetta Hennessey and Rose Jurewicz. Gene is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy M. (Boyce) DiGiambattisti; son, Steven and his wife Margaretann of Holmdel; two daughters, Geneann Kaluzienski and her husband Louis of Arnold, MD and Jodi Facendo and her husband Mark of Hazlet; a sister, Ann Pappas of Keyport; five grandchildren, Michael, Mark, and Michele Kaluzienski and Ty and Stephanie Facendo; four great-grandchildren, Steven, Kaylin, Sierra and Michael. Also surviving him are many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at the Bedle Funeral Home, 61 Broad St., Keyport. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Cedar Wood Cemetery in Keyport.
