New Details On Dog Dumped In Old Bridge In 8 Degrees Overnight

The dog somehow survived 11 hours outside Monday night, as temperatures dropped to 8 degrees and the wind chill made it feel like -10.

OLD BRIDGE, NJ — Someone left a small white dog at an outdoor trash area Monday night in Old Bridge, and the dog somehow survived an 11-hour night outdoors, as temperatures dropped as low as 8 degrees and the wind chill made it feel like 10 degrees below zero.

On Tuesday afternoon, Old Bridge Police said on their Facebook page they have now identified the man accused of dumping the dog. However, he has not been arrested yet.

Police say security cameras in the area captured a young man dumping the dog near a Dumpster on Peach Lane in the Glenwood apartment complex. He was seen walking with the dog, holding it, and then leaving the dog at about 10 p.m. Monday, near the Dumpster.

It was not until 9:16 the next morning that a Glenwood maintenance worker found the dog, inside that same Dumpster. The dog is about 2 years old and is a Bichon Frise breed.

Somehow, the dog survived the night, said police, "after spending 11 hours outside in the bitter cold."

The Glenwood maintenance office called Old Bridge Police Tuesday morning when one of their employees saw the small dog "inside one of their Dumpsters." The Dumpster is located at Peach and Spruce lanes, said Old Bridge Police.

After Old Bridge Police put out a public request for information on their Facebook page, several residents called in with security footage from home cameras. The suspect, a young man, was seen carrying the dog and then abandoning him in the near-zero temperatures.

"The suspect, a 26-year-old male resident of Old Bridge was charged with animal neglect and animal abandonment," said Old Bridge Police.

This young man has still not been located by police. As of Tuesday night, he remains at large.

The dog is currently being cared for at the Old Bridge Animal Shelter. The dog was seen by a veterinarian and was deemed to be in good health, said police. Inquiries about adoption will occur at a later date.
