Dog Left To Die On 8-Degree Night Gets Fresh Haircut, Doing Well
The dog is "feeling much better with a fresh haircut and warm sweater," said the Old Bridge Animal Shelter.
OLD BRIDGE, NJ — The two-year-old Bichon Frise that someone left outdoors to die Monday night — when the temperature plunged to 8 degrees and wind chills were below zero — is doing well as of Friday and currently thriving in a foster home, said the Old Bridge Animal Shelter.
The shelter named the dog "Scotty." He is still not available for adoption, although calls have been pouring in, and the shelter also said it's been inundated with donations of dog food, blankets and dog beds.
"Scotty says thank you SO much for all the continued donations for all of my friends at the Old Bridge Animal Shelter! I am feeling MUCH better with my fresh haircut and warm sweater," the Old Bridge Animal Shelter posted Friday afternoon on its Facebook page.

"The little white Bichon Frise that was found in the dumpster is NOT currently available for adoption or foster," the shelter continued. "We truly appreciate your enthusiasm for giving him a loving home. He is under the care of a vet."
Old Bridge Police say it was a 26-year-old local man who left Scotty next to a Dumpster at the Glenwood apartmens Monday night. Security cameras showed him leaving the dog at the Dumpster at 10 p.m. and it was not until 9:16 the next morning, Tuesday, that a maintenance worker found the dog, still inside that same Dumpster.

Somehow, the dog survived the night: 11 hours outdoors as temperatures dropped to 8 degrees and the wind chill made it feel like 10 degrees below zero. The Glenwood management office called the maintenance worker who found Scotty "a hero."
The 26-year-old Old Bridge man is charged with animal neglect and animal abandonment, but Old Bridge Police have not released his name, nor has he been arrested yet.
The Dumpster where the dog was dumped is located at Peach and Spruce lanes.
