Lloyd Road School 4th, 5th Graders Create Art From The Sky

ABERDEEN, NJ — At the end of March, the fourth- and fifth-graders at Lloyd Road School in Aberdeen worked together to create an image of a husky, as seen from above.

The husky is the mascot of the Matawan-Aberdeen school district. The students themselves formed the dog, by wearing black or white t-shirts.

The project was the brainchild of Daniel Dancer, an Oregon artist who was brought in to help the children create the art installation. He was brought in by Tara Gurney, the art teacher at Lloyd Road School; Gurney received a grant from the Matawan-Aberdeen Educational Foundation to hire Dancer.

Dancer's work is called Art for the Sky. His work "emphasizes looking beyond yourself at the big picture, and contains many lessons about collaboration, interconnections, and how our actions have an impact on the environment and our surroundings."
