Matawan, Aberdeen Elections Are Tuesday

The general election for school boards and mayor, town council is Tuesday.

ABERDEEN, NJ — The general election for school board, mayor town council will be Nov. 7. Here again is who is running in each town:

Matawan town council:

Current Mayor Joseph Altomonte seeks re-election, along with Council President Deana Gunn and newcomer Arlan Feiles. All three are Democrats.

They will be challenged by a Republican slate: Charlie Ross is running for mayor and Anissa Esposito is running for Council. Joe Saggese was also running for town Council, but he was dropped from the Republican ticket after he was charged with a domestic violence aggravated assault in late September 2023. His name will still appear on ballots.

Four of the six Aberdeen Township Council seats are up for election this year.

The four Council people who hold those seats have all filed to run for re-election. They are: Greg Cannon, Arthur Hirsch, Robert Swindle and Connie Kelley. They are all Democrats.

They will be challenged by four Aberdeen residents who are Republican: Susan McGowan, Michael Olesen, Carl Zanchelli and Michael Vail.

School board:

From Matawan borough; voters will be asked to choose one:

  • Sandra Clavijo
  • Laurie Skop

From Aberdeen Township; voters will be asked to choose two:

  • Danielle Spruell
  • Christopher McGovern
  • Shelley Gershner
  • Cheryl R. Mazzeo

How to vote early in person:

You can vote early, in person by machine from Oct. 28 - Nov. 5 at the following 10 locations in Monmouth County. They will all be open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.:

Monmouth County residents can vote at any of those 10 designated locations, regardless of which town they reside in.

Vote by mail, track your ballot

If you choose to do mail-in voting, here is how to send your ballot back:

  • U.S. Mail, postmarked by Nov. 7, Election Day
  • Drop it in one of Monmouth County's Dropboxes, by 8 p.m. on Nov. 7
  • Or drop it off in person at the Monmouth County Board of Elections at 300 Halls Mill Road in Freehold, by 8 p.m. on Nov. 7
