Old Bridge Dog Bitten By Rabid Skunk In Backyard

This happened in a backyard in the vicinity of Vail Drive and Hunter Court Saturday, said the Middlesex County health department.​

OLD BRIDGE, NJ — A resident's pet dog in Old Bridge attacked and killed a skunk in their backyard this past Saturday, and it has now been learned that the skunk tested positive for rabies virus, according to the Middlesex County Health Department.

This happened in a backyard in the vicinity of Vail Drive and Hunter Court, said the county health department.

The dead skunk was picked up by Animal Control and taken to the New Jersey Department of Health laboratory for testing. It was reported on Tuesday that the skunk tested positive for rabies.

The resident’s dog is currently vaccinated for rabies and was instructed to follow up with their veterinarian.

The resident was notified to consult with a physician regarding any rabies post-exposure treatment.

This is the seventh rabid animal reported within Middlesex County for 2021 and the first rabid animal in Old Bridge. Residents should report wild animals showing signs of unusual behavior to the police department. Keep pets and children away from wild animals.
