Trees Fall On Homes, Car In Middletown In Monday Night's Storm
Union Beach, Atlantic Highlands and Middletown were the hardest hit in the storm, said JCP&L. These photos show damage in the region:
MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Monday night's fierce thunderstorms brought a tree down on the roof of a home on Center Avenue in Middletown, and another tree went through the rear window of a car, according to News 12 New Jersey. (Patch originally incorrectly reported this happened in Matawan; it was Middletown.)
There have been no injuries reported so far. Middletown Police responded to more than 160 911 calls since Monday night and at least four homes have been hit by falling trees, said Mayor Tony Perry.
According to News 12, trees came down on the following roads/homes in Middletown:

- Southside Avenue, where a large tree fell on a home
- Center Avenue
- Lots of branches down in the Navesink section off Rt. 36
- Portland Road
The Union Beach, Old Bridge and Middletown areas were the hardest hit in the storm, said JCP&L/First Energy spokesman Chris Hoenig, who is based in Holmdel.
"The damage is almost exclusively trees down on wires and broken poles," said Hoenig. "The hardest hit areas are Atlantic Highlands, Union Beach, Middletown, Old Bridge and Marlboro."

All Middletown schools and other schools in the area are open Tuesday.
Up to 37,000 residents in Middletown lost power at around 11 p.m. Monday in the thunderstorms. And in total, the storm cut out power to 75,000 customers across Monmouth County Monday night.
As of 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, there are currently still 9,800 Monmouth County residents in the dark.
In Middletown alone, there are still 4,500 residents without power as of 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, according to Jersey Central Power & Light.
The Middletown Library is also temporarily closed Tuesday morning because it doesn't have electricity.

Currently, as of 9:20 a.m. Tuesday the following are still out, according to JCP&L:
- 4,674 in Middletown
- 1,143 in Atlantic Highlands
- 813 in Manalapan
- 1,654 in Marlboro
