Ceremony To Honor Mendham’s First Woman Mayor

The trailblazing mayor served with the American Red Cross during WWII, and volunteered in Mendham for years before holding office.

MENDHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ — Mendham officials are planning a special service that will honor the township’s first-ever woman mayor.

Marian Wysong served as Mendham Township’s first woman mayor from 1985 to 1988. Before that, she served on the Mendham Township Committee since 1978.

Before her days in local politics, Wysong worked with the Red Cross during World War II in North Africa. She brought her work back home from overseas, serving as the Morris Area Red Cross President and a Mendham Township First Aid Squad member since 1969.
