​Chester Borough Recognized, Again, For Commitment To Neighborhood Tree Care

Chester Borough has been recognized as a "Tree City" for the past four decades.

CHESTER BOROUGH, NJ — The Borough of Chester has been recognized as a “Tree City” for the 40th year in a row.

Thanks to efforts by the Chester Borough Tree Shade Commission, the Arbor Day Foundation recognized the borough for demonstrating “a commitment to caring for trees.”

The Chester Borough Shade Tree Commission was founded to “create, protect, sustain and manage a robust, healthy tree resource to promote an attractive quality of life for all residents, visitors, merchants, and others residing, conducting business or involved with leisure time activities in the Borough.”

Tree City USA is a recognition program with the initiative to raise awareness of the importance of trees in a neighborhood and increase the standards of community living.

“Since 1976, the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program has recognized communities of all sizes, from Sibley, North Dakota, to New York City,” an Arbor Day Foundation statement read. “Tree City USA national recognition helps communities demonstrate and promote their commitment to a greener place to call home.”
