CHESTER, NJ — Organizers are preparing for this year's Chester Day, which brings the township and borough together as one to share fellowship and help beautify local streets, buildings, and parks.

Chester Day 2024 takes place on Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., beginning and ending at Chubb Park. Community members will return to the park for a thank-you lunch after volunteer work around the Chesters.

This event is organized by Chester Borough's Environmental and Open Space Committee and Chester Township's Environmental Commission.

"We live in a divided world that needs genuine human connection more desperately than ever," organizers said. "You can help foster such connection by giving a few hours of your time on Chester Day and by encouraging your loved ones — especially your children — to do the same."

Attendees will meet at the pavilion at 9 a.m. to have some light refreshments, get organized for their projects, and get their free volunteer t-shirt and shopping bag.

Then, Chester residents of all ages will head out into the community for service projects for all ages and ability levels.

Volunteers are needed to pick up trash and other junk around local parks, and others could sign up to stain fences and do some light gardening at the library, Chubb Park, or the Chester Area Senior Housing Complex.

Or, you can really roll up your sleeves and get debris out of catch basins. Check out volunteer opportunities, and more info here.

After a few hours spent serving the community, everyone will come back to the park for a casual lunch and to chat with other residents.

More than 160 people participated last year, and organizers say they want this year to be "even bigger and better."

A rain date is to be determined. Click here for more information.
