Chester Route 206 Project, South Road May Each Last Several Weeks

A State of New Jersey contractor will be working on Route 206 from Furnace Road in Chester to Route 80 in Roxbury.

CHESTER, NJ — Having started on a road improvement project this past week for Route 206 between Furnace Road in Chester and Route 80 in Roxbury, the state’s contractor expects road work for its pavement rehabilitation project could last several weeks.

Asphalt Paving Systems, a contractor for New Jersey’s Department of Transportation, states that work between the two locations, could take several weeks to finish. Work is expected to be performed daily Mondays through Friday overnights, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m, according to a news release from the DOT.

As part of a $2.8 million federally-funded effort, the contractor has been removing reflectors to begin milling and paving northbound on Route 206 and then will start southbound.

Intended as an upgrade to the highway for safety and to help with the road’s pavement life over the 14-mile stretch, once paving starts, there will be alternating traffic to single-lane and ramp closures required, when contractors are working overnights.
