Sewer Basin Collapse Closes Two Eastbound Lanes On Route 80

Interstate 80 drivers in the Morris County area are dealing with new travel disruptions—this time, not because of a sinkhole.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — It’s not another sinkhole, but drivers on I-80 in Morris County are once again dealing with lane closures and delays.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced that the two left lanes and shoulder of I-80 eastbound near Exit 37 in Rockaway are currently closed for emergency drainage repairs.

The announcement, made Monday evening, emphasized that the roadway damage was not caused by a sinkhole, but by a collapsed sewer basin. The issue is affecting the two left lanes of I-80 eastbound near the on-ramp from Green Pond Road in Rockaway.
