New Road Closures In Chester; Street Still Partially Closed In Mendham

Morris County is under a wind advisory through Monday night, and multiple communities were also without power throughout the day.

MENDHAM-CHESTER, NJ —High winds are causing traffic issues in Mendham and Chester on Monday, after trees and poles have fallen and caused wires to hang onto the road.

Chester Police shared multiple updates Monday afternoon. As of the latest update:

  • Rogers Road is closed.
  • State Park Road is closed between Trout Brook and Hacklebarney Road.
  • Pleasant Hill Road is closed between Flanders Road and Prides Crossing. Drivers are asked to use Reger Road and Flanders Road as a detour.

In Mendham Township, Corey Lane is closed between Redman Farm and Green Hills, township police said as of 9 a.m. Monday.

Officers said the road is expected to be closed all day, and they will update the public when the road is back open. There have been no updates as of 3:50 p.m.

"There is pole down with multiple pole lengths of primary wires down," police said.

Monday's high winds and resulting damages also caused power outages across the county, with close to 20,000 customers out as of around 2 p.m.

The National Weather Service placed Morris County under a wind advisory until 8 p.m. Monday night.

“Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles,” forecasters said. “Use extra caution. Secure outdoor objects.”
