Dr. Michael Gottfried, Aviation, Physics, & Geophysical Science Teacher, Roxbury High School, Roxbury, NJ, from Landing, NJ, was recently presented with an Air and Space Forces Association (AFA) NJ Teacher of the Year Award by Bill Fosina, President, Shooting Star Chapter 195. The award includes $750, an AFA jacket, a certificate, and a pin. Also, NJ President Joe Abegg presented Dr. Michael Gottfried with a handmade seal of the Space Force in recognition of his meritorious contributions to STEM and Aviation Career fields.
He stated that if you told him five years ago that he would be teaching Aviation and preparing for his Private Pilot check-ride, he never would have believed it. Also, he stated that when he became a teacher 10 years ago, his main focus was to make a difference. He wanted to help students find their place in the world, grow as individuals, develop leadership skills, and promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). Little did he know, he would be able to do this so tangibly through Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA)’s Aviation Curriculum, as well as teaching Geophysical Science and Physics.
