Equipment For Mendham First Aid Squad Funded By New Grant

To honor the 9/11 first responders, New Jersey American Water announced the recipients of its Fire and EMS Grant Program today.

MENDHAM, NJ — The Mendham First Aid Squad was one of the recent recipients of a volunteer fire and EMS grant program totaling $43,000, which was distributed to 19 volunteer fire and EMS departments across the state.

New Jersey American Water announced the recipients of its 2023 Grant Program today to honor the memories and sacrifices of the 9/11 first responders.

The funding, totaling more than $43,000, will be used to support programs, training, and/or enhanced equipment to assist first responders in better protecting themselves and the communities they serve, New Jersey American Water said.

“Safety is paramount at New Jersey American Water. That is why we are proud to continuously support the everyday heroes that keep our communities safe through our Volunteer Firefighter and EMS Grant Program year after year,” said Mark Iannarella, Director of Health and Safety, New Jersey American Water and former volunteer firefighter, Pennsauken Fire Department. “These brave men and women work selflessly and tirelessly to safeguard our communities, and we hope these funds will make that task a bit easier.”

This year's funding will be used by each department in a variety of ways, including the purchase of gas meters, hoses, emergency lights, and other rescue equipment, as well as crucial training courses and tools.

New Jersey American Water has notified the Mendham First Aid Squad, and the firm will distribute checks this week to departments attending the 2023 New Jersey State Fireman's Association Convention in Wildwood on Friday, Sept. 15.

Since the program's inception in 2011, New Jersey American Water has given 290 grants totaling more than $351,000 to 154 local volunteer fire departments and emergency response units across its service territories.

Mendham Township First Aid Squad is entirely made up of volunteers, with NJ State Certified EMTs on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They also provide backup support for various community events as well as the Mendham Township Fire Department.
