Family-Owned Mendham Restaurant To Sell After 30 Years
One patron called the transition "the end of an era."
MENDHAM, NJ — After serving residents for three decades, Mendham steakhouse owners have decided to hand over their keys.
Sammy’s Ye Old Cider Mill, located at 353 Mendham Rd W, will be under new ownership Jan. 1.
“We would like to express our deepest gratitude for your loyal support, friendship, and patronage through the years,” a letter read. “Serving you has been an honor and we are proud of the memories and connections we have built together.”

Third-generation owners Samuel, Philip, and MaryAnn Fornaro took over the steakhouse in 1995, carrying on a legacy created by their grandfather in 1933. While known for its cuts of steak and traditional turf eats, Sammy’s Ye Old Cider Mill has also made a name for itself in seafood, serving dishes including shrimp scampi and whole Maine lobster.
The owners said that they have sold the building, but did not say if the restaurant would remain Sammy’s Ye Old Cider Mill. They also wished them “every success” and were confident that Sammy's legacy would be preserved in their hands.

Patrons who have been dining at the steakhouse for decades wished the Fornaros the best of luck with retirement and shared fond memories of their experiences there.
“Learned how to crack my first lobster there in the 80’s when I was a kid. Best of luck,” one social media user wrote.
Another poster called the closure “the end of an era.”
“As we prepare for our closing, we hope you will stop by to share your favorite memories and allow us the opportunity to thank you in person,” the letter read. “Once again, thank you for being a part of our story. We will cherish the time we spent with you and the community forever.”
