CHESTER, NJ — Summer wouldn't be complete without carnival rides and the sweet aroma of fried food wafting through the air.

Now that summer is almost here, it's time for the Chester Firemen's Carnival to return.

The carnival returns to Chester on June 20 and runs until June 24 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. It will include rides for the whole family, games, music and food.

The carnival, which has become a staple community event, is held every year during the last full week of June, from Tuesday to Saturday. The fire company had to postpone the carnival for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The carnival is a fundraiser for the Chester Volunteer Fire Company, with all proceeds going to the fire department.

Every year, the Chester Fireman's Carnival firework show takes place on Friday night at 10 p.m., which should be fun for the entire family.

Since 1921, the Chester Volunteer Fire Company has been run entirely by volunteers. They currently have over 50 active members who contribute over 6,700 man-hours per year.

In addition to emergency response and ongoing state-mandated training, the volunteer company organizes a variety of community service projects, such as fire prevention at nearby schools and the Chester Firemen's Carnival.
