‘Gypsy Jazz’ Concert To Be Held In Mendham Forest
The music is inspired by the nomadic Gypsy guitarists in Western Europe in the 1920s, according to organizers.
MENDHAM, NJ — Groove in the woods this month as the Schiff Nature Preserve prepares for the next installment of its ‘Music in the Woods’ program.
On Aug. 24, Joe Cirotti and friends will be performing their ‘Gypsy Jazz’ show at the Schiff Nature Preserve. Listeners can expect some truly Appalachian covers and originals to echo through the forest.
The concert is from 4 to 6 p.m. and is located at the Schiff Nature Preserve off of Pleasant Valley Road in Mendham. Attendees should arrive at the preserve a half-hour before the show to account for the 30-minute hike to the venue.

“Characterized by a swinging rhythm, improvisation, and virtuosity, originating with nomadic Gypsy guitarists in Western Europe in the 1920s, these fine musicians have brought a new appreciation for this remarkable genre,” a statement read. “With Dani Fischetti on the violin and vocals, Pete Lister on bass and vocals, Mike Alexander on the mandocaster and vocals, and Joe Cirotti bringing the percussive strumming style called ‘la pompe’ that emphasizes beats two and four and the fast-paced improvisations he is known for, we are in for a treat.”
Attendees are encouraged to BYOB, bring blankets and pillows, snacks, and carpooling is recommended.
