Historic Mendham Borough Hall Closed For Renovation For Several Months
Borough Hall staff have moved locations for 4-6 months, to make room for structural improvements at the historic Phoenix House.

MENDHAM BOROUGH, NJ — Mendham Borough Hall staff have moved locations for several months, as the historic Phoenix House is closed for renovations.
This closure is necessary to make room for structural work that needs to be completed at the Phoenix House (2 West Main Street), said Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner. The structure, which was built in the early 19th century, has been used for municipal offices since 1938.
All offices and the payment drop box are currently located at the Bowers Building, 6 West Main Street. Municipal offices will remain there for four to six months, the mayor said.

Glassner said that borough staff are asking residents to schedule appointments by phone if they need to meet in-person, because of the limited space.
"Our staff is working in tight quarters, and they don’t have immediate access to records, so patience would be appreciated," the mayor said in the March monthly newsletter.

The Phoenix House also recently received a historic site marker from the Morris County Heritage Commission. The building, representative of Federal-style architecture, was constructed around 1820 as an inn on the Washington Turnpike. The portico was built in 1840.
