Meet Some Of Chester’s NJ South Hills Rescue’s Adoptable Pets

The local group has rescued death row dogs and even one that was tossed from a car window. Meet some of these lovable pets here.

CHESTER, NJ — “Diva” made her way to New Jersey after she was thrown out of a Louisiana car window when evacuations were happening during Hurricane Ida.

She is one of many dogs and cats now in the care of foster families with NJ South Hills Pet Rescue, a Chester-based group, waiting for her “furever” home.

Another is “Koda,” a Shepherd mix, who was surrendered to the group as his former family faced eviction from their home.

Both of these dogs, said Donna Polizzi of the rescue, are ready to be adopted.

Diva, a Cairn Terrier, was scooped up, she said, after someone saw her get tossed out from the car that fateful day in Louisiana. She battled heartworm, something the rescue treated her for, Polizzi said. She also needed help with house training. Neither, however, should stop anyone from adopting Diva, Polizzi added.

“Many adopters have passed on her because of the heartworm and the housebreaking but this shouldn’t hold people back - she is doing great with her training now - and heartworm treatment is completely paid for by our rescue and totally curable,” Polizzi said.

At about three years old, Polizzi described Diva as “an absolute joy to be around.”

Koda, about the same age as Diva, has been “working hard to gain back his confidence,” after he was placed in a loving foster home several months back, said Polizzi. Since then, he’s lived with children and another dog, initially very frightened, but now thriving with them all.

Langdon is another dog, who is now in medical foster care with the rescue, after he was taken from dog death row in North Carolina, with hours to spare. His “crime” and reason he was pushed up the euthanization list, was because of an injury to one of his back legs that made it unusable.

When NJ South Hills Pet Rescue took Langdon into their care, he was whisked the next day to surgery and continues to make and take strides.

“First Langdon almost lost his life, then he almost lost his leg and here he is, surpassing all of our expectations,” the rescue wrote about the video below:

Believed to be about a year old, Langdon’s incision on his leg continues to heal and he walks a bit further each day as he undergoes his approximate eight-week recovery.

Langdon is described as “crate and house trained and well-behaved."

Langdon, a Belgian Malinois mix, who “loves nothing more than a game of fetch and chewing his Nylabones,” would be best in a home with older kids, NJ South Hills Pet Rescue says.
