Mendham, Chester Schools To See State Aid Increase

Department of Education releases data for 2016-17 budgets.

MENDHAM, N.J. - After spending the last few years receiving state aid that remained flat year-over-year, the Mendham Borough, Mendham Township, Chester and West Morris Regional school districts will see a slight uptick in the 2016-17 budget.

The New Jersey Department of Education released its annual state aid figures, and both local districts saw minor percentage increases that amounted to tens of thousands of dollars in budget money.

The Chester School District, which includes grades kindergarten through eight across three school buildings, will see a 1.5-percent increase, or $15,550. The district received $1,040,352 for the current school year and will receive $1,055,902 for the 2016-17 school year.

The Mendham Borough School District will see a 2.8-percent increase, or $7,042 more than the current year. The district received $249,335 for the current year and will receive $256,377 in 2016-17.

The Mendham Township School District will see a 2-percent increase, or $8,453. The district received $430,042 for the current year and will receive $438,495 for the 2016-17 school year.

The West Morris Regional High School District, which includes West Morris Central and Mendham High schools, will see a 0.8% increase in aid, or $35,999 more than the current year.

The district will go from $4,425,501 in the current year to $4,461,500 in the 2016-17 budget.

No Morris County school district remained flat or saw a decrease, with the Morris School District seeing the highest percentage growth at 5.2-percent.
