MENDHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Mendham man just celebrated a milestone: a century of living.
Martin Carl Steenbock, Sr., known by friends as "Shep,” celebrated his 100th birthday on Nov. 23.
Born in Newark in 1925, Steenbock moved to the Brookside section of Mendham when he was 13 years old. He married his late wife, Ann, in 1953 and worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Morristown for 20 years before retiring.

Additionally, the 100-year-old is a part of the Deutscher Club of Clark and Germain Park of New Jersey in Rockaway. He is also an avid stein collector and a member of the Members of the Pennsylvania Keysteiners.

Steenbock was recently issued a proclamation for his milestone celebration by the township. In attendance were Assemblywoman Aura K. Dunn, Mayor Sarah Neibart, and Senator Anthony Bucco.
“Mayor Neibart and the Township Committee of the Township of Mendham wish Martin Carl Steenbock, Sr. a very Happy 100th Birthday,” a township statement read. “Martin, thank you for being a part of what makes our community so special. Warmest wishes for continued joy, good health, and love.”
