Mendham Man Driving Drunk Hit Embankment, Crashed Car: Police

21-year-old taken to hospital with minor injuries Monday morning, police report.

MENDHAM TWP. - A Mendham Borough man who allegedly drove through a stop sign in Mendham Township ended up with his car rolled over and a driving while intoxicated charge, police said.

At 3:19 a.m. on Monday morning, police responded to the area of Woodland and Old Brookside roads for a report of a rollover crash, Lt. Ross Johnson said.

When police arrived they found Matthew Liccardi, 21, had extricated himself from the car, which was rolled over, Johnson said.

An investigation revealed Liccardi was driving down Old Brookside Road, ran through a stop sign, and hit an embankment before rolling up the driveway of a home on Woodland Road, Johnson said.

Drug paraphernalia was found inside the vehicle, Johnson said, and Liccardi was found to be under the influence of alcohol. He was taken to Morristown Medical Center with minor injuries.

Liccardi was charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and reckless driving.
