Mendham Rotary Launches Fundraiser to Combat Brain Disease

Mendham Rotary partnering with Simple Coffee and Dante's Ristorante to launch a fundraising drive for the Concussion Legacy Foundation

Mendham, NJ, May 22, 2025 – The Rotary Club of the Mendhams held what was called “a powerful and sobering meeting” on May 22nd, addressing the tragic impact of CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy). Guest speakers Cherie Stites and Borough resident Kelly Merlino shared their heartbreaking personal stories, revealing how this neurodegenerative disease, linked to repeated head trauma, tragically claimed the lives of their husbands. Both men suffered injuries playing football, from youth leagues through college.

"I met John Stites as a freshman in college, and we quickly became good friends, roommates, and fraternity brothers," explained Rotarian Neil Henry. "It was disturbing to hear about a close friend dying at a relatively young age. I decided that I wanted to help remember John in some small way."
Driven by these moving accounts, the Mendham Rotary Club is actively exploring impactful ways to address this critical issue. As a first step, they are partnering with local businesses Simple Coffee and Dante’s Ristorante to launch a fundraising drive for the Concussion Legacy Foundation (concussionfoundation.org).

When residents dine at Dante’s Ristorante or grab a coffee from Simple Coffee on June 6th, 7th, and 8th, or June 13th, 14th, or 15th, simply mention “Rotary Fundraiser” when you order. Ten percent of your purchase will be donated directly to the Concussion Legacy Foundation, supporting their vital work in CTE education and research.
