Mendham Twp Elementary Named National Blue Ribbon School
The local elementary school was one of just nine New Jersey schools to earn the distinction this year.

MENDHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ — Mendham Township Elementary School has been named a 2019 Blue Ribbon School by the Department of Education.
"The Blue Ribbon award is an outstanding accomplishment and demonstrates our commitment to being a wonderful place to learn and grow. At Mendham Township Elementary School, we are lucky to have an amazing faculty and staff, dedicated administration, talented students, and supportive, engaged parents. This honor demonstrates that MTES is not only am outstanding place to learn, it is also a supportive, caring environment where students thrive," Dr. Salvatore Constantino, Superintendent of Schools in Mendham Township, said.
"This award is a tremendous honor and recognizes the amazing achievements of our students, staff, and families at MTES," Principal Julianne Kotcho. "As principal of this school, I am so proud of the continued focus on our students' academic success and their development as happy, healthy young people. We are grateful for everyone’s support and involvement in our school."

Nine New Jersey schools earned the distinction this year, with Mendham Township Elementary being the only Morris County school to make the cut.
According to the Department of Education, being named a Blue Ribbon school “affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.”

A total of 362 schools nationwide earned the title. Each school that earns the award is either among the highest performing schools in a state or among the highest performing in closing the achievement gap.
“We recognize and honor your important work in preparing students for successful careers and meaningful lives,” U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos in a video message to the honorees.
“As a National Blue Ribbon School, your school demonstrates what is possible when committed educators hold all students and staff to high standards and create vibrant, innovative cultures of teaching and learning.”
A ceremony honoring the schools will be held in Washington D.C. in November.
