Mendham's Troop 1 Boy Scouts visit Gettysburg
The Scouts learn about the Civil War while camp out in the outdoors
Troop 1 - Mendham, NJ Boy Scouts had a fantastic time at Gettysburg National Military Park where they experienced a day in the life of a Civil War soldier. The scouts donned civil war era uniforms, practiced marching drills, using a cannon, went on a 3 hour guided walking tour of the battlefield where they learned about the various battles, and toured the museum. The day ended with each patrol cooking their own dinner and a campfire program.
Troop 1 is was founded in 1935 by William “Green Bar Bill” Hillcourt. Troop 1 is a boy led Troop and very active in the outdoors, community service and the ideals of scouting. Since it’s founding T1 has produced 118 Eagle Scouts! … and counting.
