Morris Co. Man Named Gov. Murphy's Chief Of Staff

George Helmy, current State Director to U.S. Senator Cory Booker, will serve as Gov. Phil Murphy's Chief of Staff.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Morris County's George Helmy will serve as the next Chief of Staff to Gov. Phil Murphy, the administration announced Friday morning. Helmy currently serves as State Director to U.S. Senator Cory Booker.

"I'm thrilled to announce George Helmy as my next Chief of Staff," said Murphy. "George is uniquely equipped to help lead our team as we begin our second year in office. His mix of state and federal experience, management skills, and deep relationships with elected officials and political leaders make him the perfect fit for the job. I've seen his leadership on projects ranging from the Gateway Program to Homeland Security funding to the all-important constituent relations, and I know he’ll bring creative and wise solutions to every challenge he encounters."

Before joining Booker's office, Helmy worked with two Fortune 100 companies and was an aide to Senator Frank Lautenberg, handling gun safety and financial affairs issues. Helmy is a Jersey City natives who currently lives in Morris County. He has a Bachelors degree from Rutgers and a Masters degree from Harvard.

The Chief of Staff role comes with a $175,000 salary. Helmy will start on Feb. 4.
