MENDHAM, NJ — A new school leader has been appointed to the West Morris Regional High School District.

The current superintendent, Michael Ben-David, resigned from his position in March after working within the West Morris Regional High School District since 2015.

The Parsippany-Troy Hills Board of Education announced on Friday, May 5, that their superintendent, Barbara Sargent, will be leaving the district at the end of the school year and transferring to the West Morris Regional High School District.

Over the years, Sargent's work in educational leadership has afforded her the opportunity to work in many New Jersey communities, including Somerset Hills, Montgomery Township, Madison and Readington Township.

After graduating from Rutgers University in 1986, Sargent began her career in education as a 7th grade Language Arts and Social Studies teacher for the West Windsor-Plainsboro School District.

Sargent became Superintendent of Schools for the Parsippany-Troy Hills Township School District in 2017.

"Dr. Sargent’s leadership contributed to the district’s success, particularly during the challenge of the pandemic." Her service will leave a lasting and positive impact on our teachers and students," the Parsippany-Troy Hills Board of Education said.

The West Morris Regional School District, with grades nine through 12 in West Morris Central and Mendham high schools, has an enrollment of approximately 2,240 students.

Ben-David will leave the district this summer to join the Tenafly Public School District, which named him the district's future superintendent of schools in early March after an extensive search.

"My decision to leave West Morris Regional has nothing to do with money, geography, politics, or BOE action/s. Sometimes the answers in life are both simple and obvious—it was just time," Ben-David wrote in a statement to Patch.
