Nor'easter Leaves Around 4 Inches Of Rain In Chester, Mendham

The National Weather Service predicts a possibility of between one to two more inches of rain by the weekend.

CHESTER, NJ — On par with the initial predictions of the storm, the Nor’easter that drenched the Chester and Mendham area on Monday night and throughout Tuesday dropped around four inches of rainfall.

Showers could possibly return on Friday, according to the National Weather Service, with between one to two more inches of rain coming.

New Jersey’s Department of Environmental Protection’s Water Monitoring and Standards tracked the rainfall totals near Chester and Mendham at the monitoring station by the South Branch Raritan River finding 3.69 inches within the storm's 48 hours and 1.21 inches of rain having fallen during its last 24 hours.

At another nearby monitoring station at the North Branch Raritan River, the rainfall measured within 48 hours showed 4.05 inches of rain, 1.15 inches over its last 24 hours.

During the day on Tuesday, the rainy conditions and gusty winds brought two-hour delays to Mendham's schools, as well as some downed trees and road closures throughout the area. During the day, municipalities braced residents for the potential of power loss from downed trees and wires.

Among the road closures on Tuesday from the storm was Old Orchard Road in Mendham Township, with a tree in the roadway that took down wires, keeping the road shuttered for a few hours.

For Thursday temperatures in Chester and Mendham are expected to rise to almost 61 degrees, after a plunge overnight from 44, with mostly sunny skies and winds at 5 mph.

On Thursday night, the National Weather Service forecasts temperatures to fall back to 46, the winds also remaining calm at 5 mph.

On Friday, showers could return after 2 p.m., under mostly cloudy skies, a high of 55 predicted, with showers throughout the day potentially dropping up to another two inches of rainfall by Friday night, with a low of about 48 degrees.

For Halloween weekend, more showers may fall on Saturday before 2 p.m., with a high of 60 degrees and Saturday overnight, a possibility of rain and low of 49, before temperatures are expected to rise on Sunday for trick-or-treating to a high of 59 degrees, under mostly cloudy skies.
