Fall Foliage Pictures Wanted For Mendham Borough Photo Contest
The Shade Tree Commission will award the photo contest winner with a tree for their yard.
MENDHAM, NJ — It's that time of year again for Mendham Borough's fall foliage photo contest.
Mendham Borough’s Shade Tree Commission is seeking submissions for the best photo of a tree or trees in the borough, outfitted in their finest fall colors, with the entry deadline by Oct. 31.
Photos need to be of a tree or trees anywhere in the borough, with people, pets, cars, bicycles and more allowed in the picture.

All submissions should be emailed, along with the location where the picture was taken, to Carolynn Budd dpw@mendhamnj.org.
The contest winner will pick a tree, awarded by the Shade Tree Commission, to be planted in their front yard.

The Borough, for the eighth consecutive year in 2021, has been named a “Tree City USA,” a program with the Arbor Day Foundation, with Mendham Borough committed to planting up to 20 2.5 inch “caliper shade trees,” on some private properties and on easements throughout Mendham Borough, in both the fall and spring.
On 2021's Arbor Day, residents planted over 975 seedlings, with over 6,000 seedlings planted borough-wide, from trees grown in New Jersey nurseries, over the past eight years.

According to the Arbor Day Foundation, in 2021, there were 3,676 cities throughout the United States that were recognized, with 749,568 trees planted and over $1.4 million “invested in urban forestry.”
There are advantages for being a Tree City USA Community, the Arbor Day Foundation states, including reducing energy costs up to 25 percent when there are more trees, increases in property values, noise reduction, lessening of carbon dioxide and other benefits.
