Regional School Board Member Resigns, District Looks To Fill Vacancy
A representative from Mendham steps away with nine months remaining in his term.

MENDHAM, N.J. – There’s now a vacancy on West Morris Regional Board of Education, and the district is seeking a representative from Mendham Borough.
The current Mendham Borough representative, Brian Cavanaugh, resigned his post Monday, March 7 after one full year in the position. Cavanaugh’s term was not due to expire until the end of 2016.
Cavanaugh said his intention was to only serve for one term when he ran for the seat, and his objective was to sway the board into potentially dissolving the district due to what he called “discriminatory per pupil spending.”

Reached by phone Tuesday, Cavanaugh said, “I’m happy to have helped the board accomplish objectives I hadn’t considered when I first ran for the position. Unfortunately I have not been able to sway the board into making a change in how the district allocates its funding.”
Cavanaugh also said his personal circumstances have evolved and played a role in his decision to resign from the board.
