Sgt. John Camoia Appointed as Borough Department's Officer in Charge

Camoia will replace retiring Chief Pasquale Libertino, who will call it a career on Jan. 31, 2017, Borough Administrator Richard Merkt said.

MENDHAM BOROUGH, N.J.– Mendham Borough Police Sgt. John Camoia was appointed as the department's Officer-in-Charge, Mayor Neil Henry announced.

Camoai, a 23-year-veteran, was appointed by the Mayor and Council to replace retiring Chief Pasquale Libertino, who will call it a career on Jan. 31, 2017, Borough Administrator Richard Merkt said.

"This is a temporary appointment to ensure the smooth operation of the police department while the borough conducts a systematic search for Chief Libertino’s permanent replacement," Henry said.

Camoia has been a Mendham Borough police sergeant for the past 12 years.

"He knows all of the members of the police department and is well familiar with police issues facing the borough,” Henry said. "I am confident that, with his training and experience, he will do a fine job as Officer-in-Charge and give the borough an opportunity to consider all qualified candidates for permanent leadership of the police department."

Camoia will work closely with Libertino to "facilitate a smooth transition," Merkt said.

Added Henry, "It also assures leadership continuity...during the search process."
