Snow, Winter Weather Could Hit Mendham, Chester

Residents may see up to two inches of snow by Friday, the National Weather Service forecasted.

MENDHAM, NJ — Mendham and Chester residents could see up to two inches of snow fall with a storm expected to wind down by Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Ahead of the storm, the National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory to run from 7 p.m. on Thursday to 1 p.m. on Friday. That advisory called for up to three inches of snow in some sections of Morris and Warren Counties.

The storm is expected to begin as rain, snow and sleet before 2 a.m. Friday, then sleet between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m., before changing over to freezing rain after 4 a.m., the National Weather Service forecasted.

There could also be wind gusts up to 25 mph from the storm, the National Weather Service predicted.

Rain and freezing rain is expected to continue through 2 p.m. Friday before tapering to rain between 2 and 4 p.m., with a high of 40 degrees, the National Weather Service said.

Ahead of the storm, Chester Township canceled its recycling pickup for Friday, according to the township. The next recycling day is scheduled for March 4.

Into Friday: Rain, snow, and sleet before 2am, then sleet between 2am and 4am, then freezing rain after 4am. Low around 28. East wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Friday: Rain or freezing rain before 2pm, then a slight chance of rain between 2pm and 4pm. High near 40. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southwest in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 18. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 34. Northwest wind around 5 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 20.
