CHESTER, NJ — The West Morris Regional High School District Board of Education is making the search for a new superintendent a priority in 2025.

The announcement that Superintendent Barbara Sargent plans to retire this spring came as a surprise to the local community, especially since she had only taken on the role in 2023, succeeding longtime Superintendent Michael Ben-David. Ben-David resigned earlier that year after serving the district since 2015.

In response, the board held a special meeting in late November, authorizing the Board Secretary to begin the search for a new superintendent for the West Morris Regional High School District in the coming year.

In late November, the district posted the superintendent position, outlining the following qualifications:

  • NJ Superintendent Certification
  • 5+ years of educational leadership experience at the high school and/or central office level (Assistant superintendent or superintendent experience preferred)
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills

All applications were required to be submitted to Matthew Giacobbe before the start of the new year.
