CHESTER, NJ — Get ready for a Halloween thrill as one of Chester's cherished annual traditions makes its comeback this weekend.

Trunk or Treat will once again take place on Saturday from 4:30 p.m. until 6:15 p.m. at Chubb Park, with the costume parade beginning at 5:30 p.m. Set-up begins at 4 p.m.

In recent years, trunk-or-treat has emerged as a Halloween tradition in which kids collect candy from the trunks of decorated vehicles in a parking lot. It's typically considered a safer alternative to trick-or-treating around the neighborhood.

The township has called on residents, organizations and businesses to attend with decorated vehicles and help make the event a success for the children. To distribute candy, registration is required, and all registered guests must bring a bag of factory-sealed candy in a factory-sealed bag.

There is an $8 registration fee for those who wish to register their vehicle.

The best-decorated trunks and the best costumes for kids, adults and pets will all be eligible for prizes, according to the event's organizers.

Attendees can also expect pumpkin carving, demonstrations and live "Monster Mash" music by DJ Randy Backer.

Both trunk-or-treat and the costume parade are only open to Chester residents, officials said.

The rain date is Sunday.
