US Navy Vet Harry Gorman, Of Chester, NJ, Loved Baseball
Korean War Navy Vet Harry Gorman grew up in Newtown Square, PA before bringing sports enthusiasm to New Jersey.

CHESTER, NJ — A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War loved sports and played on the USS Newport News baseball team long before he coached his son's Little League team.
Harry Hudson Gorman, Jr., 91, of Chester, New Jersey, died on March 10 at Paragon Village in Mt. Olive Township, New Jersey.
Gorman was born on Dec. 3, 1930, in Philadelphia to the late Harry Hudson Gorman, Sr., and Ella Elizabeth (Theurer) Gorman. He grew up in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Marple Newtown High School Class of 1948. He later attended the University of Delaware where he received a degree in Engineering Class of 1959.

Gorman proudly served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean War, aboard the USS Newport News from 1951-1955. He was a member of several organizations including the Chester American Legion, Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honors Society, Chester 50+ Club, Chester Grace Bible Chapel and the Chester Lions Club for which he was a past president. He was also a past president for the Northwest Jersey Chapter of Professional Engineers, and a past treasurer of the Chester Area Senior Housing Development.
Gorman was a passionate sports enthusiast. He was an avid bowler, and bowled on the Chester league, once bowling a perfect 300 game. He loved baseball, was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, and while in the Navy played second base on the USS Newport News baseball team. Harry also helped coach his son’s Little League Baseball and Babe Ruth teams. He was a dedicated Blue Hen Alum who loved watching the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens football games. His love of sports continued as he always attended his children and grandchildren’s many sporting events throughout the years.

Harry is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Bessie (Loomis) Gorman; five devoted children, Donna Ventura and her husband Mike, Eric Gorman and his wife Kathy, Beth Hudson and her husband Daniel, Kelly Fenton and her husband Timm, and Kristin Wade and her husband Brian; twelve cherished grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Gorman and his wife Nancy; many loving nieces, a loving nephew, and extended family members and friends. He is predeceased by one grandson, Jason Hudson in 1994.
Harry’s Life Celebration will include a visitation on March 16, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. t0 12:30 p.m. at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Road (corner of Rt. 206) Chester, New Jersey. A Funeral Service will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Bible Chapel at 100 Oakdale Road, Chester, New Jersey.
