Township, county and state officials celebrated the grand opening of the seven-acre park in September, an historical property where 11 generations of one family lived, its original residents having had ties to the American Revolution and General George Washington. The property formerly had a home on it, destroyed by a fire in 2016, which had been built in 1722. The township, which originally acquired 12 acres, had planned to preserve the home.
Mendham Township hosted fundraisers in August and November to dedicate trees and markers in the park, to build a reserve fund for park maintenance.
