RANDOLPH, NJ - Some credit card machines weren't working at the gas pumps and the ICEE machine struggled to keep up with demand, but that didn't damper the enthusiasm for the Grand Opening of the Wawa, 358 Route 10, in Randolph Thursday.

“At Wawa, our core purpose is to go beyond filling orders to fulfill lives, every day, and that has never been stronger than it is now as we embark on a new year full of new growth, new jobs, and an enhancement of the way we deliver the Wawa experience through what we call, ‘Boundless Convenience,” said Chris Gheysens, President & CEO, Wawa. “As new stores open throughout the year, we will continue to bring not just a new Wawa to the community but a commitment to safety and growth. We look forward to meeting all our new friends and neighbors in the Randolph community.”

As part of the outdoor, grand opening celebration, Wawa recognized everyday heroes in Randolph Police Department and Randolph Fire Company with its signature “Hoagies for Heroes,” donated lunch and $1,000 donated to each department’s charity of choice.

The special COVID-conscious opening began with the ceremony at 7:30 a.m. with a few customers but as of 8 a.m. the place began 24/7 operation.

Tom Hughes will serve as general manager of the new Randolph Wawa store, leading a team of approximately 60 associates, all of which are new positions brought to the area through the development of the store.

For the first two weeks after the opening there will be additional employees that normally work in area stores like the Hackettstown location. Indeed, on Thursday there were many clustered employees out on the floor as well as behind the counters.

The grand opening of this location is the first store in Randolph, and the third new store to open in New Jersey so far in 2021. Wawa also opened a new store on the same day in Cranford.
