Falling on the last Monday of May each year, Memorial Day honors those who lost their lives while serving in the military. It's a federal holiday that many people get off from work, resulting in a three-day weekend.

This year, Memorial Day falls on May 27, and for many, this holiday weekend marks the unofficial start of summer. Full Moon Hike

When: Friday, May 24 - 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
Where: Schiff Nature Preserve, 339 Pleasant Valley Rd. (339 Schiff Dr.), Mendham, NJ 07945
What: Enjoy the beauty of the full moon with a two-mile, 1.5-hour hike through Schiff Nature Preserve. This event is recommended for guests age 8+; no pets are permitted. Pricing is $12 per person for members and $18 per person for non-members.

Stringwise At Shanghai Jazz

When: Friday, May 24 - 6:15 p.m. and 8:35 p.m. seatings
Where: Shanghai Jazz, 24 Main Street, Madison, NJ 07940
What: In 2019, Latin musicians César Orozco and Jorge Glem reunited to release their debut duo album Stringwise. The duo will bring their unique stylings to Shanghai Jazz, where guests can enjoy upscale Asian cuisine and drinks as smooth as the music. Reservations are required; though there is no music charge, there is a $40 food and drink minimum per person.

Memorial Motor Madness

When: Sunday, May 26 - 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Where: Mars Wrigley, 800 High St., Hackettstown, NJ 07840
What: Hosted by the Hackettstown Rotary Club Foundation, the 28th annual Memorial Motor Madness car show returns for the unofficial start of summer. The rain-or-shine event includes food and drinks, music, crafts and vendors, prizes and more.

Jubilant Jellyfish With Pinot’s Palette

When: Sunday, May 26 - 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.
Where: Pinot’s Palette, 1885 NJ-57, Hackettstown, NJ
What: Enjoy a professionally-led paint-and-sip class with an easygoing atmosphere. You’ll follow a step-by-step guide to painting two jellies dancing under sunlit waves (or you can paint however you like!). Tickets are available for $50 per person; all skill levels are welcome.
