Architect Will Assess Potential Capital Projects in Middletown School District

The approximately $37,000 contract will allow Spiezle Architectural Group to assess facility needs and write grants for the Middletown, NJ school district.

The Middletown Board of Education approved a $37,400 contract with Spiezle Architectural Group for the first phase of a district-wide facilities needs assessment and grant writing process at a recent special action meeting.

The contract allows the architect to evaluate potential capital projects in the district and assist the district in applying for grants to finance those projects, a task that Board Secretary Amy Gallagher described as “quite voluminous.”

“We have to submit a separate application for each project for each school,” she said. The grants the district plans to apply for would cover approximately 40 percent of costs associated with the project they were allocated for, according to Gallagher.

Spiezle will specifically look at the heating and air conditioning systems at Middletown North, Middletown South, Thompson Middle School, Bayshore Middle School and Thorne Middle School, according to Board President Chris Aveta. The roofs at all three middle schools will also be assessed.

“The contract allows the architect to evaluate infrastructure throughout the district and apply for various grants that would help finance needed improvements,” Aveta said.
