Keyport Father, 37, Killed In Motorcycle Crash On Turnpike
A 37-year-old Keyport father of two was killed late Friday night when the motorcycle he was driving crashed on the New Jersey Turnpike:
KEYPORT, NJ — A 37-year-old Keyport father of two was killed late Friday night when the motorcycle he was driving crashed on the New Jersey Turnpike, said NJ State Police.
The driver of the Harley Davidson was identified by police as Ryan Schmalz of Keyport.
State troopers say he crashed his bike at 2:31 a.m. Saturday, June 8, on a Turnpike south ramp in the Newark area, at milepost 104.7/Exit 14. Police say his motorcycle collided with a tractor trailer truck crossing the ramp.

As a result of the crash, Schmalz was killed on impact.
According to his obituary, Schmalz leaves behind his wife and two children, a son and a daughter.

He was an avid skateboarder, and loved skateboarding so much that he started a company, New Life Cruisers, with friend Danny Ryder. The two men took used or discarded skateboards and turned them into works of art that could still also be skated on.
"His absolute love of skateboarding and adventure-seeking will keep our memories of Ryan joy-filled as we come to terms with this tragic loss of life," read his obituary. "You were, are, and will always be deeply loved."
