Middletown 2014 Election: Murray and Fiore Reelected; BOE Moves Forward Despite Missing Sign Reports

Middletown Republicans are reelected to the Township Committee, while the Board of Education election

Middletown went to the polls yesterday, and with Mayor Stephanie Murray and Committee member Tony Fiore up for reelection, this election was an important one for the township.

Results show that Republicans Murray and Fiore have been reelected with roughly 30% of the vote each, with Democrats and George Mardinly trailing behind and failing to unseat them.

For the Board of Education, President Sue Griffin was reelected with the largest percentage of the votes tallied, at roughly 25%. There had been reports of signs supporting Griffin for reelection going missing or being torn and shredded around the township. One person was even arrested after being caught damaging signs on Griffin’s property, but police declined to reveal any details about the arrest, including the suspect’s name.

Today, Griffin declined to comment on the arrest, and said she was “satisfied with the results of the election”.

Current Board member Ernest Donnelly was also reelected, with roughly 20% of the vote. The third member position went to newcomer Helene Henkel.
