Middletown Area Fire Displaces Family

The fire, which occurred on December 12, has left a family in need of Red Cross assistance.

A house fire that occurred Friday in Middletown Township has left a family displaced and needing emergency shelter, officials have reported.

At approximately 7:47 p.m. on December 12, the Middletown Township Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the East Keansburg section of the township. Approximately 35 firefighters from the East Keansburg, Port Monmouth, and Belford Engine Fire Companies responded to the scene under the command of 1st Assistant Fire Chief John Gorsegner, according to Middletown Township Fire Department spokesman John Isaksen.

The first arriving fire units observed heavy fire coming out of the front windows of the single story residential structure, located at 48 Oregon Avenue.

Crews from the East Keansburg Company quickly deployed hose lines and attacked the fire. The fire was contained to the family room of the home, according to Isaksen.

Chief Gorsegner declared the fire under control by 8:19 p.m., and the last units left the scene by 9:30 p.m.

All of the residents of the home had evacuated prior to the arrival of the responding emergency units, Isaksen said. There was smoke and water damage throughout the house, and the residence was subsequently deemed to be uninhabitable. The Red Cross has provided emergency shelter for the residents.

There were no reported injuries during the incident.

The Middletown Township Air Support unit and the Port Monmouth First Aid Squad also assisted on the scene. The fire is being investigated by the Middletown Township Fire Prevention office.
