Middletown Teen Charged With DUI After Crash In Point Pleasant
A Middletown teen was charged with driving under the influence after he hit a utility pole in Point Pleasant early Monday:
POINT PLEASANT, NJ — A Middletown teen was charged with driving under the influence after he hit a utility pole in Point Pleasant early Monday, police in that town said.
The accident caused power outages in the area that lasted into Monday afternoon, said police.
Scott Gilbert, 19, of Middletown, who was alone in the car, hit a utility pole on Bridge Avenue in front of Stop & Shop at 1 a.m. Monday, said Point Pleasant Police Capt. Christopher Leonhardt.

It damaged the pole and caused power outages in the surrounding area. Gilbert "was relatively uninjured," Leonhardt said, and was charged with several motor vehicle violations, in addition to driving while intoxicated.
Electricity to the affected area in Point Pleasant remained out into Monday afternoon, as JCP&L crews were on the scene replacing the damaged pole.
