Monmouth County Councilman Dies After Being Struck On Bike By Car

Fair Haven Borough Councilman Jerome A. Koch was killed on Sunday afternoon after being struck on his bike by a vehicle.

Fair Haven Borough Councilman Jerome A. Koch died on Sunday night after being struck by a car while riding his bike and suffering fatal injuries .

Koch, 63, was riding his bicycle on River Road near Elm Place at approximately 3:25 p.m. on November 30 when he collided with a vehicle, driven by a mother with a daughter as a passenger, borough police reported to The Asbury Park Press.

Koch was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with serious injuries, and passed away Sunday night.

According to the Press, Koch was only three blocks away from his home when he was struck.

Koch had been on the borough council for seven years. He was a manager at Northeast Performance Coupling Company, earning a bachelor’s degree at the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

He was married to his wife, Betsy, a teacher and mother of four children, all educated in Fair Haven. He served as an officer in the United States Army from 1973 to 1977.

Police are still investigating the accident and no charges have been filed against the driver.
