Pay to Play Public Hearing To Be Held in June
The Middletown Township Committee will hear public comments about following the state's proposed uniform Pay to Play reform on June 18.

Middletown residents will have an opportunity to voice their opinions about a proposed Pay to Play ordinance during a public hearing before the town Committee votes.
The proposed Pay to Play ordinance was introduced at the May 21 . All committee members passed the introduction of the ordinance. The next step is for the public to bring their opinions and concerns about the ordinance to the public hearing scheduled for June 18.
The proposed ordinance states that “public sector labor unions are no different than any professional service firm as they negotiate contracts for services with elected officials”. The ordinance continued to explain how in previous years, Middletown spent over 60% of its overall budget on compensation and benefits for their mostly unionized workforces and less than 5% on all other exempt professional services.

If passed, Middletown would follow the proposed uniform state-wide Pay to Play reform, which would prevent any further confusion about how much money Political Action Committees (PACs), union funds, and service funds can give to political parties during elections.
