Sandy Hook Will Hold An Evening Lighthouse Climb Aug. 30

It is free, but you have to reserve a spot in advance and spots are filling up fast.

HIGHLANDS, NJ — The National Park Service will host a guided climb of the famous Sandy Hook Lighthouse this Saturday, Aug. 30.

These will be free tours led by a park ranger, who will give visitors a history of the lighthouse, and all of Sandy Hook, which used to be a U.S. Army base.

"Join a park ranger for a guided climb of the nation’s oldest operating lighthouse in Sandy Hook, New Jersey! As you ascend 95 steps and a 9-rung ladder to the lantern room, you’ll hear stories and insights about the lighthouse’s unique history and significance."

Participants must be 48 inches tall to climb.
