Sept. 11 Star Wars Trivia
Grab your fellow Star Wars fans and join us September 11 at 7 pm for a night of trivia from a galaxy far, far away! This program, rescheduled from July, will take place in the Community Room and registration is required.
Sept. 13 Speed Puzzling Challenge
MTPL will host its Second Speed Puzzling Challenge September 13 at 1 p.m. The event is open to all, though each team must include at least one member who is 18 or older. All teams will work on the same 500-piece puzzle, and the first team to finish will be crowned the winner. Registration is required.
Sept. 16 and Sept. 30 Tech Tuesdays
Learn new digital skills at MTPL this September with two hands-on workshops. On September 16 at 2:30 pm, join the iPhone Basics Workshop to explore essential functions, review settings, manage and install apps, and access email and photos. Then, on September 30 at 2:30 pm in the Makerspace, learn to use Canva, a free online platform for creating digital designs. Bring your computer questions for a brief "Ask a Librarian" session after each workshop. Registration is required for both events.
Sept. 16 How to Use Today’s AI Tool to Simplify Life and Business
On September 16 at 6:30 pm, join Eddi Khaytman for a demonstration on how artificial intelligence (AI) tools can simplify daily tasks, boost productivity, and enhance efficiency in both personal and professional activities.
Sept. 17 Virtual Talk: Our Failed Attempts to Make English “Eezier” to Spell
On September 17 at 2 pm, join author Gabe Henry for a virtual, humorous journey through the English language. Explore why “choir” and “liar” rhyme but “daughter” and “laughter” don’t, and how the rapid pace of online communication is shaping language today. Sept. 17 Sorcery & Starlight Book Club
Starting this September, join fellow readers for a lively discussion exploring fantasy and science fiction favorites. The first meeting will be held September 17 at 7 pm. This month’s pick is "Upon a Starlit Tide" by Kell Woods — limited copies are available for pickup at the Circulation Desk. Registration is recommended.
Sept. 19 Introduction to Journaling
Join retired educator Marilyn Lane on September 19 at 10:30 am for a discussion on the whats, whys and hows of journaling. Topics include tools for generating ideas, tips for overcoming writer’s block, and ways to make entries more creative. Registration is required, as space is limited to 15 participants.
Sept. 20 Fall Fest Concert: An Afternoon of Music with Marco Crincoli
Step into an afternoon of elegance and artistry as acclaimed guitarist Marco Crincoli fills the Community Room with the timeless beauty of the classical guitar on September 20 at 2 pm. Bring the whole family to enjoy crafts, games, and more during the library-wide Fall Fest from 11 am – 3 pm!
Sept. 22 and 25: History Room Watch Parties
Join us in the History Room for several engaging watch-and-discuss events this September. On September 22 at 3:30 pm, view “Oral Histories at the National Guard Militia Museum of New Jersey," presented by Carol Fowler, assistant curator of NJMMNJ. Then, on September 25 at 6:55 pm, watch “Gen. George Meade Takes Command, Part 1,” a lecture from the North Jersey Civil War Round Table presented by Dr. Jennifer M. Murray, Assistant Professor of History at Shepherd University in West Virginia. No registration is required. Sept. 24 Adult Zining Workshop
Embrace your creativity at MTPL’s Zining group for adults with resident archivist Laura Poll on September 24 at 1 p.m. in the Community Room. No artistic skills are needed, and all supplies will be provided. Registration is recommended.
Sept. 25 and Sept. 30 Head, Heart & Hormone Connection
Join Vivian Taomina on September 25 at 1 pm or September 30 at 7 pm in the Community Room as she explores the connection between what we know, what we desire and how we feel. Through storytelling, science, and humor, Taomina will examine the emotional and physiological shifts that accompany life transitions. Registration is recommended.
Sept. 25 Piano Solo Compositions Inspired by Literature
Enjoy an evening of piano with Max Anikushin on September 25 at 6:30 pm. Anikushin will perform solo compositions inspired by literature, including works by Liszt, Chopin, Ravel, Tchaikovsky, and Beethoven, creating a rich musical journey through some of the most beloved classical pieces.
Sept. 30 Researching Revolutionary War Patriots in Your Family Tree - Part 1
On September 30 at 11am, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Middletown Chapter will demonstrate how to use FamilySearch public trees and the National Society DAR database to identify potential Revolutionary War ancestors. The program will take place in the History Room.
