Swim Club Approved for Ice World

Plans for Ice World to be built on the Swim Club's site were approved by the Township Planning Board Wednesday night.

Applause echoed through the packed board room Wednesday night as the Planning Board voted through the capital project review of Ice World to the site.

The swim club, , opened on its usual weekend this year under the operation of new owners the NJ Junior Titans, a non-profit hockey club. Plans of building an indoor ice rink, Ice World, onto the site were presented to the board Wednesday night.

“What is proposed here is a first class ice hockey facility,” explained Township Administrator Anthony Mercantante. “It will be as good as any facility in the state.”

Mercantante and Ted Maloney, Township Engineer, presented the plans to the board which would require transformation of the tennis courts and part of the cabana areas to build the 40,000 square-foot building. The structure would also house a cafeteria and a regulation size hockey rink that could accommodate up to one thousand seats if it is expanded.  

“With this facility tied into the swim club my opinion is that it will make maximum benefit of that space,” explained Planning Board Vice Chairman Thomas G. Hall.

After asking all necessary questions to Mercantante and Maloney the Planning Board’s members all voted to approve the presented project plans as is.
