Taylor Lane Townhome Complex Hearing Continues Wednesday
Meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in town hall

A special meeting Wednesday night will give Middletown Planning Board members the opportunity to continue hearing a controversial townhome complex proposal on Taylor Lane.
Scheduling conflicts meant that testimony in the application could not be heard during the board’s regular meeting in early December. The special meeting was put on the calendar at that time, according to board secretary Debi Yuro.
American Properties at Middletown is seeking preliminary and final major subdivision and site plan approval to construct 196 townhomes and 49 affordable units, along with a 3,600 square foot clubhouse and a pool.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Middletown’s municipal building. The agenda is available online here.

Some locals are unhappy with the plan, citing traffic and pedestrian safety concerns with the project.
Last month, Peter Steck, a planner retained by objectors to the site, said that Taylor Lane will become a busier roadway if the complex is built, and residents living on the eastern side of the complex could have a potentially dangerous walk to the amenities located across that road.

But the applicant contended that it was not uncommon for such a design and similar layouts have been used throughout the state.
